UPDATE (10:20 a.m. ET): Jacob Blake is out of surgery and recovering in the ICU. (TMZ)
A police-related shooting of a Black man in Kenosha, Wisconsin yesterday sparked protests last night after video of the incident circulated on social media.
Hundreds of protesters shouting “no justice, no peace,” flooded the streets and had to be dispersed using tear gas. An emergency curfew was declared for 10:15 p.m. but there were still crowds of people out after midnight setting fire to city dump trucks which had been placed to block traffic from getting to the police station.
Earlier in the evening, police officers responded to a call about a domestic incident involving 29-year-old Jacob Blake. Few details have been released, but a video taken by a witness shows three officers walking behind Blake and ordering him to get on the ground as he walks toward his vehicle. As Blake tries to get into his SUV, one officer tugs at his shirt and fires several shots into his back. Blake was airlifted to the hospital in serious condition. The shooting is under investigation and the officers have been placed on administrative leave. (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)
