The NBA paid tribute to Kobe Bryant Sunday night at its annual All-Star Game.
First, former Lakers great Magic Johnson addressed the crowd, announcing “number-eight and number-24, Kobe Bryant,” prompting the could to cheer and encouraging them to cheer louder. Fans responded with a “Ko-be, Ko-be, Ko-be” chant. Magic then asked the crowd to join hands and embrace each other during eight seconds of silence in Kobe’s honor.
All the players on Team LeBron wore number-two in tribute to Kobe’s daughter, Gianna, while Team Giannis wore number-24 in honor of Kobe.
Also, commissioner Adam Silver announced Saturday that the All-Star Game MVP Award would be named for Bryant, who holds the record for being chosen to play in 18 consecutive All-Star Games and is tied for the record with four MVP Awards. Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard picked up the honor.
