The Top 5 movies this weekend:

1. Jumanji: The Next Level – $60.1 million
2. Frozen II – $19.2 million
3. Knives Out – $9.3 million
4. Richard Jewell – $5 million
5. Black Christmas – $4.4 million

Jumanji: The Next Level scored the best December opening for Sony with $60.1 million. That’s better than its predecessor, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which earned $52.7 million after its first five days in 2017.

The weekend’s other new releases didn’t fare as well. The Clint Eastwood bio-pic, Richard Jewell, debuted with $5 million, well below expectations, while the horror remake Black Christmas made only $4.4 million, also much less than expected.

After three weeks at number-one, Frozen II dropped to second with $19.2 million. The Disney sequel has made $366.5 million domestically and more than $1 billion globally.

The critically acclaimed mystery Knives Out dropped from second to third with $9.3 million.
