The Top 5 movies this weekend:

1. Joker –  $18.9 million
2. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil – $18.5 million
3. The Addams Family – $11.7 million
4. Zombieland: Double Tap – $11.6 million
5. Countdown – $9 million

Joker returned to number-one at the box office in its fourth weekend as the comic book movie became the top-grossing R-rated movie of all time.

The Joaquin Phoenix flick has now earned $849 million worldwide.

The weekend’s new releases didn’t fare well. The horror flick Countdown opened in fifth with $9 million, while the crime drama Black and Blue debuted in sixth with $8.3 million. The Current War, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, premiered in ninth with $2.7 million.

After one weekend at the the top, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil dropped to second with $18.5 million.

The Addams Family climbed from fourth to third with $11.7 million.

And Zombieland: Double Tap dropped from third to fourth with $11.6 million.
