RIHANNA: Won’t “Sell Out” (Like J-Lo)

Rihanna confirmed that she was offered the Super Bowl halftime show. But, unlike Jennifer Lopez, in solidarity with quarterback Colin Kaepernick, she declined.

Three years ago, Kaepernick started a movement to protest police brutality. Kaep doesn’t have an NFL job today because he kneeled during the national anthem.

Performing at the Super Bowl would have felt like a betrayal of Kaepernick to the singer. RiRi told Vogue magazine (quote) “I couldn’t dare do that. Who gains from that? Not my people. I just couldn’t be a sellout.”

In other words, Rihanna considers Jennifer Lopez a “sellout.”
