ANDRE 3000: Struggling With Music

Written by on December 19, 2019

Andre 3000 and Rick Rubin recently got together, but it wasn’t to make music.

The OutKast rapper told the producer that he’d love to start work on a new album “but it’s just not coming.” The Grammy-winner says he hasn’t been making much music, chalking it up to a lack of focus and confidence. He blames fame for taking away his creative drive, explaining that things change when you achieve success.

Sure, he’s put out songs and features here and there over the years, but even that is a problem for Three Stacks. “Any little thing I put out… people nitpick it with a fine-tooth comb. ‘Oh, he said that word!’ And that’s not a great place to create from. And it makes you draw back.”

If he decides to return to music some day, it might not sound like you’d expect. “I’m trying to find out what makes me feel the best right now. What makes me feel the best is when I do these random… instrumental kind of things. They make me feel the most rebellious.”
