*GRAMMYS*: Ugly Allegations in Discrimination Suit
Written by KingCnote on January 22, 2020
The ousted Grammys CEO filed a 44-page discrimination lawsuit on Tuesday alleging serious misconduct at the Recording Academy. If her allegations are true, Deborah Dugan won’t be the only head to roll.
She claimed Grammy nominations are rigged. Just last year, if Dugan is to be believed, Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran had Song of the Year nominations stripped from them in favor of an artist that sat on the nominating committee.
Among her whistleblower complaints, Dugan said nominations have been handed to acts not for artistic merit but because they were represented by Board members.
Last year, Dugan replaced Neil Portnow as the Grammys CEO. Portnow may not have lost his job because he infamously told women in the music industry they needed to “step up” to be recognized. Dugan claimed the real reason behind his departure was “a foreign recording artist had accused Portnow of raping her following a performance that she gave at Carnegie Hall.” (The New York Times)
