Bronny James, 18, is in stable condition after suffering a cardiac arrest on Monday (Jul. 24). According to a family spokesperson statement, LeBron and Savannah James‘ son experienced the health scare while at basketball practice for the University of Southern California.

The statement said:

“Yesterday, while practicing Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest. The medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU. We ask for respect and privacy for the James family, and we will update media when there is more information,” the statement said, per CNN and ESPN. “LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes.”

It’s unclear if Bronny remains hospitalized or is at home with family. LeBron, Savannah, Bronny, and his brother Bryce have not posted about the medical issue on their Instagram accounts.

Per the statement, Bronny experienced a cardiac arrest, which differs and is not interchangeable with a heart attack. According to the American Heart Association, cardiac arrest is a heart malfunction that stops it from beating, whereas a heart attack is blocked blood flow to the heart.
