The Fort Worth, Texas, cop who shot a woman to death while she was playing a video game with her nephew over the weekend was charged with murder on Monday.

Earlier in the day, Officer Aaron Dean submitted his resignation before Interim Police Chief Ed Krauss could fire him, Krauss announced Monday at a news conference. He added that Dean, who had been on the force for more than a year, could still be hit with possible civil rights violations.

Early Saturday morning, 28-year-old Atatiana Jefferson, was playing video games with her nephew when a neighbour noticed that the front door of the house they were in was open. The neighbour phoned the Fort Worth police to check things out.

Body camera video shows that an officer screamed, “Put your hands up – show me your hands” while shining a flashlight through Jefferson’s window. Seconds later, Jefferson was hit with a single shot. (NBC News)
