The Top 5 movies this weekend:

1. Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker – $72 million
2. Jumanji: The Next Level – $35.3 million
3. Little Women – $16.53 million
4. Frozen II – $16.50 million
5. Spies in Disguise – $13.2 million

The year’s final weekend proved to be a boon for sequels, as three of them stayed in the box office Top 5. Two of them — Jumanji: The Next Level and Frozen II — even saw substantial jumps in revenue.

Although down nearly 60 percent from its opening weekend take, The Rise of Skywalker held onto the top spot, doing twice as much business as the Jumanji sequel that follows it in second place.

Little Women, the highly acclaimed film by actress-turned-writer-director Greta Gerwig, opened in third place by a small margin, outdoing the studio’s modest expectations.

Frozen II was pushed down one notch into the fourth spot, adding $16.5 million to its total take, which now stands over $420 million.

Bringing up the rear in the Top 5 is Spies in Disguise, an animated family action-adventure which sold $13 million worth of tickets.
