The Top 5 movies this weekend:

1. Good Boys – $21 million
2. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw – $14.1 million
3. The Lion King (2019) – $11.9 million
4. The Angry Birds Movie 2 – $10.5 million
5. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark – $10.1 million

Good Boys did great at the box office. The R-rated comedy blew away expectations landing in first with $21 million. The raunchy kids’ flick, starring Jacob Tremblay, was expected to make only $12 to $15 million.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw dropped to second with $14.1 million after two weeks at number-one.

The Lion King stayed put in third with $11.9 million. 

The Angry Birds Movie 2 was the only other new release to make the Top 5, opening in fourth with $10.5 million

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark fell from second to fifth with $10.1 million.

The weekend’s other new releases didn’t fare so well. The shark sequel 47 Meters Down: Uncaged debuted in sixth with $9 million. The Bruce Springsteen-related movie Blinded by the Light was ninth with $4.5 million, and the Cate Blanchett comedy Where’d You Go, Bernadette was 11th with $3.5 million.
