BOX OFFICE FORECAST

Written by on October 25, 2019

Movie theaters will face the challenge of competing with parties the weekend right before Halloween. Three new releases will find it difficult to make an impact opposite MaleficentJokerZombieland and The Addams Family.

Of special note, in coordination with the album drop, Kanye West’s Jesus is King will play at more than 350 IMAX theatres.

Countdown arrives on 2,600 screens but will struggle to earn $10 million. The horror flick features a popular app that tells users exactly how much time they have to live. Elizabeth Lail stars and plays the final girl.

Naomie Harris stars in Black and Blue that may not make $5 million in its opening weekend.

Also, the Thomas Edison bio-pic finally makes its way into theatres. The Weinstein Company movie Current War was scheduled to be released two years ago. Then the Harvey Weinstein scandal forced a delay. Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Shannon and Nicholas Hoult star in the story of the “corporate battle over America’s first electric grid.” Ticket sales will falter around $2 million. Crowds will not be energized.
