The Coast Guard has suspended the search for a woman

The Coast Guard has suspended the search for a woman who reportedly jumped off of a Carnival cruise ship after an altercation with security guards. The Carnival Valor was docked in New Orleans after a 32-year-old woman jumped off of the cruise ship around 2:28 p.m. Wednesday. Officials said the incident took place approximately 150 miles from the coast of Southwest Pass, Louisiana. Despite reports from witnesses claiming the woman was handcuffed, a Carnival Cruise Line spokesman said she jumped from her balcony. According to sources, cell phone footage shows the woman being restrained by security guards while screaming the name “Alicia: before she was escorted off of the pool deck. Moments later, the camera shows what happened after she went overboard. Crew members are seen in the footage throwing a life preserver off the boat. The ship remained in the area for hours as the Coast Guard searched for the woman but suspended their search around 5:37 p.m. Officials also said they are offering support to the woman’s husband during this tragic time.
