Cardi B’s Met Gala Mishap

Cardi B is trying to explain away a mishap at the Met Gala earlier this week.
Bardi was on the red carpet when Emma Chamberlain asked her who made the dress. But Cardi blanked out and forgot the Chinese designer Sensen Lii’s name, only remembering that the dressmaker was “Asian and everything.”
While it seems to be a legit accident, the flub drew criticism from fashion industry gatekeepers like former Vogue managing editor Gilbert Cheah, who wrote, ““For the record and recognition, and no thanks to Cardi B, the designer of her gown is Sensen Lii who’s Chinese… The gown took two months to make. I personally think it’s boring and not even on theme, but she chose it and should have at least remembered his name and not just that he’s ‘Asian.’”
Since then, Cardi offered an explanation of what was going through her mind at the time. “When I was on the red carpet, I was very scared… The dress was supposed to be on a little podium, and I’ve been practicing how to pose on the podium. But at the carpet, I wasn’t allowed to use the podium. So I had a lot of things on my mind, and I was being rushed to the front of the line.” Cardi said she “kind of forgot [how] to pronounce” Sensen Lii’s “complicated” name and opted to describe him as an “Asian designer” because she “knew the designer was Asian” but “wasn’t sure what nationality the designer was.”
