A second-grade student in Georgia tested positive for the coronavirus after their first day of school. The student from Sixes Elementary School tested positive for the virus and the school staff informed parents that the classroom will be closed temporarily. Students and the teacher will be in self-isolation for two week but remote learning will be conducted. Cherokee County school district spokeswoman Barbara P. Jacoby said in a statement that the classroom will be deeply cleaned after receiving news of the student’s diagnosis. The teacher, who is symptom-free, will teach the class online from home. There were photos of the classrooms where students are pictured without masks in a now deleted-Facebook post. It’s said in a previous statement that masks would not be mandatory but those claims were backtracked and said it’s strongly encouraged for students and staff.
