Residents Ordered Not To Use Water

This year has been full of not so pleasant surprises, and a city near Houston is next in line to receive one. On Saturday, Lake Jackson, TX community was told they could not resume using their tap water, due to the possibility it was tainted with a deadly brain-eating microbe. This restriction comes after the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality warned the Brazosport Water Authority of the potential contamination of its water supply, according to reports. “The authority initially warned eight communities not to use tap water for any reason except to flush toilets, but on Saturday it lifted that warning for everywhere but Lake Jackson. The advisory also was canceled for two state prisons and Dow Chemical’s massive Freeport works,” NBC reported. The advisory will remain in place until the water system has been thoroughly flushed, and tests confirm it is safe to use the water again.
