Donald Trump Grants Clemency To Lil Wayne And Kodak Black

Written by on January 20, 2021

With less than 12 hours left as president, Donald Trump used his presidential power to issue pardons and commutations for 143 people including Lil Wayne and Kodak Black. It was rumored that the two rappers would be free men for a few days now but it wasn’t until late Tuesday night that the news broke when senior officials confirmed to a Reuters reporter that the pardons were a go. Other prominent people who saw similar fates were Trump’s former aide Steve Bannon, former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and Desiree Perez of Roc Nation. Lil Wayne, who was expected to be sentenced in March in a Miami court, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and ammunition and was initially facing a possible sentence of 10 years. Thanks to Trump, Weezy doesn’t have to worry about that anymore and those who vouched for Wayne described him as “trustworthy, kind-hearted and generous.” But people on social media suspect Wayne’s praise of Trump after the two had a meet and greet ahead of the November election helped him out. Kodak had a number of rappers including Gucci Mane, Lil Pump and Lil Yachty stick their necks out for him in addition to a host of religious leaders who all supported his commutation. Trump listed Kodak’s philanthropy as a reason for why he decided to commute his sentence. Trump issued an official statement on his decisions after midnight on the White House website.
