Airbnb Announces Permanent Party Ban

Airbnb announced its permanent ban on parties following a temporary restriction enforced two years prior. The company said in a statement that they are permanently banning “disruptive parties and events,” including party houses where people will host one-time events. According to CNBC, Airbnb saw a 44 percent drop after placing the temporary ban on parties in August 2020 and said it was “proved effective,” leading to the official ban.
The Airbnb party ban was first announced in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic.
“The temporary party ban policy announced in summer 2020 included a 16-person occupancy cap — which was prompted primarily by COVID-19 concerns around large gatherings prior to the introduction of vaccines. As part of the updated policy, and based on feedback from a number of Hosts who have listings that can house above 16 people comfortably, we will remove this cap.”
Airbnb added that guests who violate their rules would face the consequences depending on the account, from temporary suspension to a permanent ban from the platform.
