Kicking off the start of summer will be the family-friendly Garfield movie voiced by Chris Pratt opposite the violent action film Mad Max: Furiosa – co-starring Anya Taylor Joy and Chris Hemsworth. Some have jokingly referred to this Memorial Day Weekend box office clash as “Garfuriosa.”
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will lead the box office. The first weekend of showings is predicted to bring in up to $45 million. The film starring Joy as a younger Furiosa is the fifth in the saga so far.
Family audiences can choose between Sony’s The Garfield Movie and Paramount’s IF, which debuted last weekend. Chris Pratt and the lasagna-loving orange cat are predicted to bring in $30 million, while John Krasinski’s imaginary friends are projected to add $15 million to last weekend’s $37 million haul.
