SUSSEX ROYALS: Free Canadian Security Ends Soon

Written by on February 28, 2020

The freebies will disappear for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle around the time they formally leave the Royal Family.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police protected the Duke and Duchess once they relocated to Vancouver in November. That security service came free of charge. That’s about to change.

The office of Public Safety Minister Bill Blair said on Thursday, (quote) “The Duke and Duchess are currently recognized as Internationally Protected Persons. Canada has an obligation to provide security. That assistance will cease the day they become inactive members of the Royal Family.”

This development contradicts what Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said only last month. He pledged that the government would help pay for the security costs. Apparently, Queen Elizabeth has more sway than a Prime Minister. (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation)
