R. KELLY: *Surviving* Filmmakers Celebrate Verdict

Credit the Lifetime documentary in helping achieve a guilty verdict in R. Kelly case of federal sex trafficking.

Surviving R. Kelly on Lifetime in 2019 and its sequel the next year highlighted the decades of abuse at the hands of the entertainer. Executive producers Tamra Simmons and Jesse Daniels said that the verdict demonstrated that the justice system can work. Though it took decades before R.Kelly was apprehended.

Jesse Daniels told Billboard magazine (quote) “The court case and guilty verdict has been incredibly emotional. I can say that for many of the survivors the uniform message is that they feel heard.”
