HAITI: More Than 1200 Dead in 7.2 Earthquake

More than 1200 were killed and thousands of others injured in a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti on Saturday morning.

This is the latest disaster to hit the country, which is still coming to grips with the assassination of its president, COVID-19 and continuing gang violence. A vaccination campaign was just getting started when the quake hit.

President Biden said in a statement, “In what is already a challenging time for the people of Haiti, I am saddened by the devastating earthquake that occurred in Saint-Louis du Sud, Haiti. The United States remains a close and enduring friend to the people of Haiti, and we will be there in the aftermath of this tragedy.”  (BuzzFeed News)
