GENDER X: State Department Issues First Passport With Designation

Written by on October 28, 2021

Gender X is now an official designation on U.S. passports with the State Department issuing the first passport with it on Wednesday.

The new category is for U.S. passport holders who don’t identify as male or female.

Press secretary Ned Price said in a statement, “The Department of State continues the process of updating its policies regarding gender markers on U.S. passports and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBAs) to better serve all U.S. citizens, regardless of their gender identity.”

He added, “The Department is moving towards adding an X gender marker for non-binary, intersex, and gender non-conforming persons applying for a U.S. passport or CRBA.” (Fox News)
