BIZ MARKIE: Gravely Ill

UPDATE (1:15 a.m. ET): Biz Markie’s family put out a statement saying, “The news of Biz Markie’s passing is not true. Biz is still under medical care, surrounded by professionals who are working hard to provide the best healthcare possible. Biz’s wife and family are touched by the outpouring of love and admiration from his friends, peers and fans alike. At this time, we ask for your continued thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

Early Thursday morning, Biz Markie’s name began trending after false, unconfirmed reports of his death. 

Revolt published a story around midnight claiming that hip-hop legend had died at the age of 57. While Biz has had health issues in recent years related to type 2 diabetes, he is currently alive. 

Roland S. Martin tweeted early Thursday morning “Folks, @BizMarkie has NOT died. I have been in contact with sources who are texting and talking to his wife. My source talked to Biz TODAY. Per his wife, Biz HAS NOT passed away. Please stop responding to non-credible sources. This hurts the family, friends and fans.” 

Revolt took the story down within an hour of publication without an official explanation or retraction. 

Podcaster Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson tweeted some additional details, “Markie has significant brain damage per a family associate. The legendary rapper is in hospice care but is still alive currently…some within Biz Markie’s circle have shared that the rapper may not make it through the weekend. Please keep he and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
