DRAKE: Threatened Lawsuit to Escape Degrassi Wheelchair

efore Drake became a world-renowned rapper, he was actor Aubrey Graham in the TV series Degrassi: The Next Generation. His character, Jimmy Brooks, was paralyzed in the teen drama during a school shooting.

Drake threatened legal action. Either his character would walk again, or he would walk away from Degrassi.

A writer from the show told The A.V. Club (quote) “There was a letter from a law firm in Toronto. It was an odd letter that said, ‘Aubrey Graham will not return to Degrassi season six as Jimmy Brooks unless his injury is healed, and he’s out of the wheelchair.’”

Drake felt pigeon-holed. He told the show’s writers (quote) “All my friends in the rap game say I’m soft because I’m in a wheelchair.”
