The Scripps National Spelling Bee failed to crown a champion. The organizers ran out of difficult words with eight competitors standing on the stage. So they called it an 8-way tie. The announcer said following the 17th round (quote) “We do have plenty of words remaining in our list, but we’ll soon run out of words that will challenge you. We’re throwing the dictionary at you. And so far, you are showing this dictionary who is boss.” (New York Times)
