2. Violent Night – $5.6 million
3. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – $5.4 million
4. Strange World – $2.2 million
5. The Menu – $1.7 million

Avatar: The Way of Water dominated the pre-Christmas box office this weekend, but its $134 million take was a big of a disappointment. It’s actually just the fifth-best opening this year — but director-producer James Cameron has said it will need to be Top 5 all-time just to break even.

The rest of the Top 5 are all movies that have been hanging around. Violent Night was the best of the bunch with $5.6 million. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is still selling tickets, with $5.4 million. Strange World brought in $2.2 million, and The Menu tallied $1.7 million.
