The Top 5 movies this weekend:

1. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero – $20.1 million
2. Beast – $11.6 million
3. Bullet Train – $8 million
4. Top Gun: Maverick – $5.9 million
5. DC League of Super-Pets – $5.8 million

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero was the surprise winner of the box office over the weekend. The anime earned an impressive $20.1 million in its first three days. 

That was almost twice as much as the Idris Elba thriller Beast, which opened in second with $11.6 million.

After two weekends at number-one, the Brad Pitt action flick Bullet Train dropped to third with $8 million, while Top Gun: Maverick continued to climb the all-time list. The Tom Cruise sequel raised its total to $683 million, putting it ahead of Avengers: Infinity War as the sixth-highest grossing domestic release. Maverick is now only $17 million away from catching Black Panther.

DC League of Super-Pets rounded out the Top 5 with $5.8 million.
