The Top 5 movies this weekend:

1. Eternals – $71 million
2. Dune – $7.6 million
3. No Time to Die – $6.2 million
4. Venom: Let There Be Carnage – $4.5 million
5. Ron’s Gone Wrong – $3.6 million

Eternals fell short of expectations but still managed to open at number-one well ahead of the competition. Marvel’s latest superhero flick earned $71 million in its debut. A few million below projections. Still, the movie scored the fourth-best opening weekend during the pandemic era, behind Venom: Let There Be Carnage ($90 million), Black Widow ($80.3 million) and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ($75.3 million).

Dune, the box-office champ for the last two weeks, dropped to a distant second with $7.6 million.

The James Bond flick No Time to Die stayed in third with ($6.2 million), followed by Venom: Let There Be Carnage ($4.5 million) and the animated Ron’s Gone Wrong ($3.6 million).
