Toy Story 4 had a $118 million opening weekend, a record for the franchise, but still managed to disappoint. The studio expected to make more than $140 million with the final installment in the animated series. The summer’s sequel slump is being blamed.

Child’s Play, which was second, also fell below expectations with a $14.1 million debut.

Aladdin remained in third with $12.2 million, while last weekend’s top movie, Men in Black: International, fell to third with $10.8 million.

The Secret Life of Pets 2 went from second to fifth with $10.3 million.

And the thriller Anna, which didn’t get much publicity, premiered in 11th with $3.5 million.
